Perhaps the skeletal system could be made of of a substance, and when informed, the bone structure would change its state of matter possibly into a liquid and being stored in a unknown new part of the body. From the human DNA Structure, it will then switch to Squid DNA. How it may work: The Cerebellum and Cerebrum parts of the brain will receive the order or instruction to turn into squid form from the Sensory Nerves, then the Motor Nerves will tell the "New Mechanism" that the Inkling would want to go into Squid Form. They would also posses a mechanism that allows them to change DNA structures for Human / Squid forms once they become 14 years of age. The Inkling language is a fictional language spoken primarily by Inklings, and other characters as well, such as some Jellyfish.
